DO I NEED MY OWN WEBSITE TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE?
No you do not. The easiest way to get a web presence is to sign up for a free blog such as Blogger.com and create a blog that can be used to promote your product or service. You can set up the blog to earn money through Amazon Associates program and Google's AdSense program. Here is my blog about photography.
In less than 15 minutes you can create a virtual store at Amazon.com to sell popular products. According to Amazon's website, "aStore is a new Associates product that gives you the power to create a professional online store, in minutes and without the need for programming skills, that can be embedded within or linked to from your website."
If you are looking for a more robust store there is Amazon WebStore. "Amazon WebStore is a comprehensive, full-featured ecommerce product that enables you to build and operate a profitable direct-to-customer business."
HOW DO I COLLECT THE MONEY MADE ONLINE?
On of the easier ways to accept payment for your goods or services is to use PayPal. PayPal is now owned by eBay so it is seamlessly integrated into eBay checkout system.
If you are new to PayPal here is information about setting up a PayPal account to accept payments.
Of course there are merchant accounts that can be set up to accept Visa, Master Card, Discover Card and American Express. Also read the fine print for any merchant account you are considering.
I WANT A DOMAIN NAME BUT ALL THE GOOD NAMES ARE TAKEN...
It is true that the popular and commonly used words/terms are taken but with a littly creatively, it is still possible to get an acceptable domain name.
One strategy for finding a domain name is to use a suffix after or a prefix before a popular keyword. For example after someone realized that cars.com was taken he came up with carsdirect.com. Someone registered the name healthanswers.com after health.com was taken. When connected.com was no longer available, the name getconnected.com was registered.
Some common suffixes and prefixes you can add to a word or term to arrive at a suitable domain name include:
tips - e.g. hometips.com
reviews - e.g. moviereviews.com
buy - e.g. buydomains.com
watch - e.g. pricewatch.com
right - e.g priceisright.com
my - e.g. mycomputer.com
You can also use phrases such as "goto" as in gotomeeting.com, "allabout" as in allaboutbirds.com and "howto" as in howtostudy.org.
I WOULD LIKE TO SELL A DOMAIN NAME I DON'T WANT
There are people who would be willing to buy your domain name if it has some value to them. A few things that make a domain name valuable are:
Namepros.com, Sitepoint, Flippa, Ebay, Digital Point
